With more than 25 years of experience in the industry, GFL Infrastructure Group’s demolition division offers a comprehensive range of demolition and hazardous materials abatement services to fit the specific and unique needs of our customers.
Our full suite of services includes:
What sets our group apart from competition is our experienced, highly-skilled and motivated team. Our personnel have the specialist knowledge to address individual project challenges as they arise and apply sound management procedures. With decades of collective demolition experience working on diverse structures including hospitals, government buildings, protected historical sites, townhouse complexes, office towers, high-rise units and other industrial, commercial and institutional facilities, we understand the means and methods of deconstruction, and are dedicated to achieving the highest standards of excellence in our industry.
We know that every project is unique, and we prepare for each one accordingly. Prior to starting a project, our experienced engineers and estimators develop a detailed plan to safely and efficiently execute the demolition process, encompassing elements such as timelines, budget, comprehensive on-site and public health and safety protocols, environmental considerations, and protection of remaining facilities.
GFL works extensively to select the most appropriate methods and equipment for completing individual jobs. Whether it’s a confined space, high-traffic area, occupied facility or vacant property, we employ a wide range of innovative techniques that are specially developed to the requirements of each project. Our large custom cranes, climber platforms and high-reach equipment can extend up to 183 ft and are ideal for systematic demolition of structures such as large towers. We also use implosion and manual demolition techniques as needed.
For more complex and confined spaces, we can deploy the most advanced technology available to the demolition industry – robotics. During intricate projects, our remote-controlled robotic demolition equipment is a safer, more economical alternative to larger equipment or manual demolition, allowing for access to confined areas that pose an environmental hazard, or where using conventional demolition methods are impractical. Robotic equipment can help enhance job safety and reduce the time required to complete work.
Sustainability is a priority at GFL and as such, our demolition team is committed to ensuring a high degree of value and environmental responsibility. Our goal is to ensure that all resources on a site can be recovered, a process that can offset project costs and reduce the environmental impact of demolition through the sale of recovered materials such as metals, equipment, tanks, etc. We have on-site equipment that can process certain materials, reducing the number of loads required to transport them off site, and we are often able to crush demolished concrete right on site and use it for backfill.
Many developers aim to obtain LEED Certification upon completion of their project. Although most points are related to the design and construction of the facility, GFL can assist customers by maximizing the available LEED points in the areas of waste management and disposal, and erosion and sedimentation control.
Prior to demolition, many facilities require environmental abatement which can include the removal of asbestos, vermiculite, PCBs, mold, and various other contaminant materials. GFL has safely completed hundreds of abatement projects in vacant and occupied residential, commercial, industrial, and institutional buildings.
Generally, when a project requires abatement services it is completed during the initial phase of the project by our highly-skilled, fully certified abatement team. For larger facilities, we are often able to compress the timeline by completing these services concurrently where possible.
